Whether you’re a first-time visitor to the Smoky Mountains or are a seasoned traveler to the area, there are so many overwhelming choices of places to eat. That’s why we locals are here to give recommendations! Take a look at our list of the top 5 local Gatlinburg restaurants and see for yourself why they are local favorites.

1. Crockett’s Breakfast Camp

crockett's breakfast campBreakfast is the most important meal of the day, and at Crockett’s Breakfast is Camp, you can expect hearty portions of delicious Southern comforts like thick griddle cakes, stuffed omelets, and plenty of meat options. Their lodge atmosphere honors David C. “Crockett” Maples, a local area frontiersman, with unique glimpses into Appalachian history. We highly recommend trying one of their giant cinnamon rolls, which you can also ask to have deep-fried and slathered with caramel sauce and whipped cream!

2. Smith & Son Corner Kitchen

You won’t regret stopping at Smith & Son Corner Kitchen for lunch, dinner, or even just a drink! The menu features starters like the Nachyo Nachos, fried okra, and beef brisket street tacos, as well as chopped salads, wings, burgers, loaded hot dogs, and more! This Gatlinburg restaurant also has a full bar menu with signature cocktails– some of our favorites include the Moonshine Mule, Hillbilly Hurricane, and the Nutter Butter Old Fashioned.

3. Tom & Earl’s Back Alley Grill Tom & Earl's Back Alley Grill

Another one of our favorite Gatlinburg restaurants is Tom and Earl’s Back Alley Grill. As its name suggests, this local spot is a bit of a hidden gem, serving up delicious appetizers, soups, salads, burgers, wraps, and other sandwiches. Enjoy a casual, laid-back meal and a beer, like the chili cheese fries and the Hillbilly Philly sandwich! We also suggest the Dyin’ Man sandwich, a thick slice of fried bologna, pulled pork, bacon, and stone ground mustard. Also, you can find live music at Tom & Earl’s on some weekends!

4. The Donut Friar

An iconic place to grab a delicious donut is located in The Village Shops, a quaint European-style complex of unique shops. The Donut Friar makes all of their donuts, cinnamon bread, and pastries from scratch every day– you’ll be able to smell the sweet dough as you’re walking by in the mornings. If you’re an early riser, you can get a hot donut straight from the oven beginning at 5 AM– now that’s early!

The Peddler Steakhouse in downtown GatlinburgThe Peddler Steakhouse is a perfect date night restaurant, but once you visit, it will immediately become a must-stop during every trip to the Smokies!
