Our mountain town of Gatlinburg, Tennessee is considered the gateway to the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains National Park and is one of the most visited vacation destinations in America. Due to the area’s popularity, it’s not surprising that guests planning a trip will find plenty of options for lodging. However, we’ve put together 3 things that our hotel in Gatlinburg on the river special and allows us to offer a unique experience to travelers.
When planning a trip to the Smokies, people are often torn between staying in downtown Gatlinburg or closer to the national park. Our location is one of the most special things about our hotel due to the fact that we are within walking distance of the best attractions, shops, restaurants, as well as the park. The Gatlinburg entrance to the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Gatlinburg Trail are just a short walk from our property. The Peddler, NOC Gatlinburg, Sugarland Cellars, Ober’s Aerial Tramway, Park Grill, Crockett’s Breakfast Camp, Gatlinburg SkyLift Park, and many other top spots in town are just a short walk away as well. At Bearskin on the River in Gatlinburg guests have the opportunity to sleep next to a relaxing mountain river while at the same time being in a hub of fun, food, shopping, and entertainment. We also have a trolley stop just outside of the hotel that offers the opportunity for guests to ride instead of drive. $2 all-day Gatlinburg Trolley passes are available at the front desk.
Our hotel in Gatlinburg on the river was built to honor and pay homage to Hattie Ogle McGiffin, our owners’ grandmother. Hattie was a pioneer of hospitality here in the Smokies, a legendary Woman of the Smokies, and the owner of the former Bearskin Motel that inspired the development of Bearskin Lodge on the River. The Ogle family designed our property to be a reflection of not only their grandmother’s hospitality but also of architecture that is found in national parks all over our country. One step into our lobby and guests immediately feel cozy and as if they have stepped in a place that was meant to be a part of the Great Smoky Mountains. From the fireplace to native stones forming the walls and the custom-made hickory furniture, it’s clear to see that no details were missed. The same ambiance flows into our guest rooms as well. Guests are treated to accommodations that create a home away from home experience during their stay in Gatlinburg. All of our guest rooms include hardwood floors, hickory furniture, large flat-screen televisions, in-room amenities, walk-in showers, and, beautiful custom-made beds by Brothers Bedding in Knoxville, TN. We offer suites, rooms with fireplaces, options of having a balcony that overlooks the river, city view rooms, and adjoining rooms upon requests. During the warmer months our outdoor pool and lazy river add to the fun of the trip and our outdoor fire pits are a great spot for relaxing year-round.
We could spend all day sharing information about what’s special about our hotel, our property, and the history of our hotel with you. However, when it comes down to it, it’s the people that work together daily for Bearskin Lodge on the River to be what it is. The people are the most special thing of all. Our staff that works daily to make sure that our guests are checked in and cared for, our housekeeping team that insures guest rooms are clean and safe, our maintenance team that never hesitates to drop what they’re doing and run to rescue when an issue pops up, and all of our behind the scenes crew that are constantly trying to think of ways to make everyone’s experience at our hotel a better experience than their last. Last but certainly not least is our guests, they play a part in our story that is just as special as everyone else. Our guests that share their stories with us, those that visit time after time, guests that introduce us to their family and friends, and all of our guests for making us a part of their memories.
