Gatlinburg, Tennessee is famous for its candy stores - and with good reason! Our Smoky Mountain city is overflowing with charming sweet shops that sell some of the tastiest treats you’ll ever eat. To help you make the most of your next vacation, the Bearskin Lodge has put together a guide to the top four candy shops in Gatlinburg TN.
Aunt Mahalia’s has been a can’t-miss destination in downtown Gatlinburg since 1939! This beloved candy shop has stood the test of time because it continues to make all of its sweets the old-fashioned way. In fact, visitors can even watch Aunt Mahalia’s candies being made through the shop’s glass-enclosed kitchen. Everything at Aunt Mahalia’s is delicious, but standout items include the fudge, caramel apples, rock candy, buckeyes, chocolate covered cherries, and divinity. Aunt Mahalia’s has two downtown locations: one on The Strip and another in the Mountain Mall.
Kilwin’s is another one of our favorite candy shops in Gatlinburg TN. The shop has developed a loyal following for its mouthwatering Mackinac Island-style fudge, which is famously paddled on marble tables. Guests will also find a wide variety of chocolate dipped treats, including Oreos, strawberries, pretzels, krispie treats, and marshmallow puffs. For a truly decadent experience, you can combine your candy with some of Kilwin’s delicious homemade ice cream, which is available in more than 40 flavors.
The Caramel Candy Co. boasts that they make “the best caramel you’ve ever tasted,” and they certainly live up to this promise! The secret behind the shop’s irresistible caramel is their special non-stick formula, so their sweets don’t get stuck to your teeth. The Caramel Candy Co. makes a great selection of caramel varieties, including plain, pecan, walnut, sea salt almond, chocolate pecan, and sea salt chocolate. Don’t forget to enjoy a free sample when you visit the shop!
The Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen was established in 1950 by a young couple who were on their way to California when they decided that they would rather put down roots in Gatlinburg. Everything at the Candy Kitchen is prepared the same way it was in the 50s, complete with copper kettle fudge, a hypnotic taffy machine, and white uniformed candy makers. Some of the most popular sweets available at the Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen include the salt water taffy, cashew brittle, candy apples, and the chocolate covered raspberry jellies. The Candy Kitchen has two locations on the downtown Gatlinburg Parkway.
